Empowering English Speaking: Tin Ka Ping English Summer Camp
Sponsored by the Tin Ka Ping Foundation, Dr. Amy Kong, Coordinator of the English Language Centre, organized a five-day English Summer Camp for forty Grade-10 students from Heyuan Tin Ka Ping Experimental High School and Zhuhai Tin Ka Ping High School. The camp aimed to improve these students’ English speaking skills through interactive tasks while providing valuable teaching experience for HSU students aspiring to work in the education sector.During the camp, Dr. Beatrice Ma, Director of the English Language Centre, delivered a workshop on the English sound system. Students then navigated various tasks in groups of four under the guidance of HSU student leaders. Dr. Amy Kong also conducted workshops on self-directed learning strategies, Hakka culture in English, and narrative writing. Additionally, she and the HSU student leaders led the students on visits to Sam Tung Uk Museum and the Tin Ka Ping Foundation.Following the workshops and excursions, HSU student leaders guided the students in delivering individual presentations about their camp experiences in the state-of-the-art Martin Ka Shing Lee Innovation Lab (the Extended Reality XR lab). The camp concluded with a memorable lunch, a prize presentation, and photo sessions. Both our teaching staff and HSU student leaders, along with the Tin Ka Ping teachers and students, gained unforgettable experiences, professional exchanges, and inspiration for teaching and learning!
