Elbert Shih Academic Excellence Scholarship For School of Humanities and Social Science 2023/24
‘Elbert Shih Academic Excellence Scholarship For School of Humanities and Social Science’ has been established to award undergraduate students of the School of Humanities and Social Science with good academic performance in AY 2023/24. There shall be one scholarships of HK$12,500 for students under the Department of English.
Eligibility & Criteria
The scholarship shall be awarded primarily based on academic merit, and non-first year UG students who have attained Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above in Semester 1 of 2023/24 are eligible to apply for this scholarship.

Scholarships for Outstanding SHSS Students
Scholarships for Outstanding SHSS Students (School of Humanities and Social Science) (香港恒生大學人文社會科學學院卓越獎學金) is set up to encourage outstanding students who are admitted to the programmes of School of Humanities and Social Science at the Hang Seng University of Hong Kong for their first year of study.
There shall be a maximum of three scholarships, HK$50,000 each, in the academic year 2022/23.
Eligibility & Criteria
● Registered as a full-time undergraduate student in the programmes offered by School of Humanities and Social Science in the academic year 2022/23;
● Attained Level 4 or above in English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSE), or equivalent, for year-l entry students;
● Attained CGPA of 3.0 or above from previous institutions for registered as senior-year entry students in the programme;
● Demonstrate good performance (CGPA 2.8 or above) in the first semester of the academic year 2022/23;
● Show good command of spoken and written English;
● Have a strong commitment to serving the community;
● Express great interest in the English language; and
● Performance in the selection interview.

Scholarship for Prospective English Teachers
The Scholarship for Prospective English Teachers (the Scholarship) is set up by the Education Bureau, the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region as one of a series of measures to enhance the professionalism of English teachers in Hong Kong. The aim of the Scholarship is to attract persons proficient in English to pursue relevant local bachelor degree programmes and/ or teacher training programmes which will qualify them to become English teachers on graduation.

Entrance Scholarships (Year 1 Entry)
First-year local students newly admitted to the BA-ENG programme and having achieved outstanding results in their senior secondary public examinations in their year of admission will be eligible for the Entrance Scholarship. A maximum of five scholarships worth HK$30,000 are awarded in each academic year.
Criteria
- Full-time undergraduate Year 1 local student newly admitted to the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in English programme in the academic year;
- Attained a total score of 15 or above in the best five subjects in HKDSE Examination, or equivalent, meeting the minimum admission requirement; AND
- Attained written test and selection interview.
Provision
- There shall be a maximum of five scholarships valued at HK$30,000 each in an academic year.
The distribution of the scholarship shall be as follows: - HK$18,000, first instalment, one-off payment, for the first year of study; and
HK$12,000, last instalment, one-off payment, for the second year of study. - The last instalment of the scholarship is contingent upon the student achieving a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above in the first year of study. Failing to meet the GPA requirement for the first year will disqualify the student from receiving the last instalment of the scholarship.
- The scholarship shall be disbursed in Semester 2 upon students’ settlement of all tuition fees for the academic year. Recipient must be an active student by the time of scholarship disbursement
Eligibility & Criteria
- For Year 1 entry undergraduate local student newly admitted to the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in English programme in the academic year;
- Attained 332A2 in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination, or equivalent, meeting the minimum admission requirement in the year of admission;
- Achieved a minimum HKDSE Best 5 score of 15 or above (or equivalent);
- Only students admitted to the University, in Semester 1 with current year admission results are eligible;
- Academic results of combined HKDSE certificates will not be considered;
- Students will be considered for any entrance scholarship only once during their study at the University. Any student who is transferred/re-admitted to the same or another programme for whatever reasons will not be considered for any entrance scholarship;
- Selected applicants will be invited to an interview and a written test conducted by the BA-ENG Programme Team;
- Priority consideration will be given to eligible students who have achieved Level 4 or above in English Language;
- Special cases will be considered on a case-by-case basis by the BA-ENG Programme Team.
