In the summers of 2018 and 2019, the English Language Team led a study tour to the UK. In 2018, the tour group went to London, and in 2019 we added Edinburgh and a day trip to Cambridge to the itinerary. Unfortunately, the 2020 tour was cancelled because of the coronavirus outbreak.
The goal of the tour is to immerse students in a native English-speaking environment, and to get them to interact more with people in English through structured activities and exercises, university visits and engagement with locals while exploring the different cities. The students get to see a culture different from their own, to compare and contrast how they live with a lifestyle overseas.
Major tour items include all the major sights in London and Edinburgh, like Buckingham Palace, The Tower of London, Edinburgh Castle and The Royal Mile. Students are led around university campuses at Edinburgh University, Royal Holloway London, and Cambridge University.
Applications typically begin at the start of the second semester of each academic year. Plans are being made to run the tour in the summer of 2021, but again the coronavirus situation closer to the time will determine whether or not the tour can be held.
