On 26 Oct 2017, the Department of English hosted a long lecture by Prof Jeremy Tambling, Honorary Professor of Comparative Literature at The University of Hong Kong and former Chair of Literature at The University of Manchester. Prof Tambling has written over 20 books and is a prominent international figure in literary studies, critical theory and comparative literature. As part of a new IIDS project co-organised by Dr Paul Fung, Prof Tambling came to our College to talk about phenomenology and critical theory. The topic was “‘What is a Picture?’: Lacan, Merleau-Ponty, Heidegger and Cézanne”.
