Abstract
Automated writing evaluation (AWE) platforms can enhance writing instruction and development. With advancements in AI technology, the potential of AWE platforms to transform educational experiences and outcomes is even greater. This presentation will focus on the latest research on AWE and share insights from the development of an in-house AWE platform. I will start by reviewing the most recent literature on AWE, with an emphasis on its impact on writers. Building on this understanding, I will share our team’s experience in creating our in-house AWE platform for undergraduate research writing and discuss the rationale behind our design and pedagogical decisions. This will be followed by a study on learners’ perceptions of and engagement with the platform. The challenges encountered in platform development and directions for future work will also be discussed.
